Hello, my name is Steve Luft. Welcome, and thank you for stopping by to view my photos and pause life for a moment. Enjoy!
For me, the photography seed was planted in the early 80s. As part of an Outdoor Science assignment, we were asked to spend time with someone who made a living outdoors. A friend of my dad was an up-and-coming, award-winning nature photographer and author, Tom Ulrich. They both worked for Big Mountain, a local and then small ski resort north of Whitefish, Montana. The topic of my assignment came up in a conversation and Tom volunteered to take me along on a photo assignment. It was late fall, and Tom wanted to photograph denning rattlesnakes on the National Bison Range at Moiese Montana. Photographing rattlesnakes would definitely not have been my first choice. The day was excellent and I wish I had taken the time to meet up with Tom later in life to express my thanks. Tom passed away before I could share the impact our time together had on me.
My photography covers several genres from wildlife (land and air), landscapes, landscapes from within landscapes, macro, abstracts, and some portrait work. I am also fascinated by the amount of photography that can be done at night, from the Milky way to photographing moonlight-painted landscapes.
As time passes, my skillsets and this site will mature, so keep stopping by and seeing my new photographs and old ones that I have revisited.
Again, thank you for stopping by!
Steve
